Grant Funding for Border Ice Rink
Regular curlers and skaters will be aware major upgrades to Border Ice Rink are required and we have been working very hard over the past three years to source funding to carry out this work. Covid has had a major negative impact on our attempts to source support for these upgrades. At last we are pleased to report that an approach was made to the Fallago Environmental Fund which shares the benefits of the Fallago Rigg wind farm in the Lammermuir Hiils and is supported by Roxburghe Estates, Federated Hermes and EDF Renewables to support projects across the Borders. Our application for £75,000 to help with the purchase of a new ice plant for BIR was recently approved by Fallago and Gareth Baird., the Chair of the Fund handed over a cheque at Border Ice Rink on Monday 14th November. This generous grant from Fallago is their largest ever and we are grateful for the support they are providing to enable BIR to proceed with the purchase of much needed new plant which will reduce our energy costs and improve the environmental efficiency of the ice rink. We are grateful for the support of the Management Team and Directors and hope that the combination of the new roof and ice plant will help provide impetus to expand our sport of curling and skating and maintain this essential community facility in the Borders.
